A new era of Cosworth has begun. In a year where we celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary, we officially opened our brand new North American Headquarters on June 25, 2018.
Based in Shelby Township, Michigan, our North American Headquarters houses our second Advanced Manufacturing Centre that spans 60,000 square feet and will produce powertrain and electronics solutions to support our clients in the North American market. Cosworth will also extend its offering to become a trusted engineering consultancy.
With contracts already extending to 2026 we are busy developing new solutions from battery sensor technology through to integrated vision systems for autonomous cars. Our work in this space will underscore Cosworth’s outlook on the automotive business, our ambitions and the key role that we intend to play in shaping the future of the industry.
To help us officially open our North American Headquarters, we were honoured to host Governor Rick Snyder and key members of the Shelby Township executives, as well as key media, to showcase our new facilities, and demonstrate our robust design and development processes.
Visitors were welcomed to the facility by Ken Gembel, General Manager at Cosworth, who presented our vision for the future with our expanded capabilities in the United States.
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder was invited to the stage, followed by a short speech by our CEO, Hal Reisiger. Next on stage was Chief Commercial Officer of Renovo.auto, who outlined the future of mobility in a short speech.
From there, at exactly 11:00am, Governor Snyder, Hal and Cosworth co-owner Gerry Forsythe took part in a “push the button” ceremony to commence our new era. Invitees were then given a tour of our facilities, and witnessed our highly automated, precision robotics technology in action.
“Our North American Headquarters brings us even closer to our tier-1 U.S. partners and reveals what the next generation of high precision, 21st century advanced automotive manufacturing looks like,” said Hal. “We are committed to keeping Cosworth and Michigan at the forefront of innovation, design, engineering and production to further advance vehicle and driver performance.”
Our new facility enables Cosworth to showcase its wide range of capabilities and to reinforce its position as a tier one supplier to OEMs, leading the future of mobility.
Of particular interest to our guests was our patented AliveDrive software, and our Vision System technologies which uses industry-leading solid state LiDAR sensor and video cameras to enable highly autonomous vehicles to see better than ever before.
The first of our solutions to be produced at the new American Headquarters will be cylinder heads for a 4.2 litre twin-turbo V8 engine for Cadillac’s new CT6 V-Sport.
Once the facility is fully operational, it will house 130 manufacturing and engineering specialists who will support our customers in the North American market from concept through design, prototype manufacturing, testing and validation, to end product manufacturing.
“With a 60-year legacy and best known for pushing the limits in modern automotive solutions, we are eager and excited about the next chapter in the Cosworth story,” said Hal.
