We now require a Materials Laboratory Technician. Reporting to the Quality Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the Materials Laboratory and all testing carried out in aid of Mass Production and Development projects.


  • Residual Particle Analysis to automotive standards
  • Sectioning and mounting of metallurgical samples
  • Macro and microscopic evaluation of samples, reviewing grain structure
  • Microscopic evaluation of samples to support mass production control plans
  • Carry out metallurgical investigations to provide Root Cause failure analysis
  • Manage Laboratory Consumable stock levels
  • Structure workload to accommodate mass production requirements and deadlines
  • Develop and document new Laboratory procedures including expansion of Laboratory scope
  • Development of heat treatment and surface treatment documentation.
  • Work with development projects to provide investigative assistance
  • Liaison with suppliers on metallurgical issues.


    • Must be highly organized and self-motivated individual who has experience target goal setting and tracking to plan
    • Attention to detail, analytical and methodical approach to problem solving, excellent document control
    • Must be able to work under pressure, to prioritise multiple tasks and execute them within a timeframe
    • Must be able to work on own initiative as well as work within a greater team
    • Capable of handling a diverse range of projects and products simultaneously
    • Ability to achieve personal deadlines and contribute to team objectives
    • Must have excellent I.T. skills to maintain various databases and present quality data in the form of departmental reports
    • Excellent oral, written and report writing skills to all levels
    • Able to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences in an appropriate, meaningful and influential manner
    • Must have a degree level qualification in Metallurgy, Materials Science or an Engineering Subject with bias towards materials.
